My dad just had surgery done for this same problem last Friday. He has over 100+ staples, cut from his breast to under his back shoulder blade. He had it on his T8 and T9. He is doing way much better but he still is having numbness in his legs. He said it hurt like hell…but….his back is feeling way much better than he was before the surgery!

I’m 25 and one can never know how long it will take for something like this to heal, so I would say go for surgery. Mine was at L4-L5 and I had terrible pain in my left leg. The pain was INSTANTLY gone after surgery, it was so liberating! the surgery took about an hour and is fairly common. I’m a big believer in the chiropractor, but we were just spinning our wheels going that route. Do surgery. Good luck.

I am 51 and had the operation on my 50th birthday. I had put up with the pain for 11 years but in the end it ruptured and I had no choice. The also put two plastic brackets on the discs L4-5 for added support. Best thing I ever did I. Good luck to all from Australia.

Im 37 yrs old and had this procedure in Feb of 08. Best decision I’ve ever made. I had all the miserable effects of an L5-S1 disc herniation/annular tear. Horrible to live with. advice, make sure to do extensive research on the surgeon. I had a great doc (top 5 in the US). Some aren’t so lucky and are worse after surgery.

I have an L5 S1 7mm herniation. Therapy, chiropractor, firm mat, acupuncture, heat and ice wont help me. For an hour max, it relieves me but my gosh! The leg pain is unbelievable. Im contemplating on this surgery. I have no guts to do surgery. And i have no energy to fight this either. What should i expect going to this procedure? How long is the hospital stay and how long was recovery? Help please.

I just had the surgery 3 days ago. the surgery was done at 11am, and I was home at 9pm. First day was painfull, but its getting much better. Most of the cases are same day surgery, unless you have complications. They told me I cant drive for 2 weeks, and most likely I wont work for 4 weeks. I tried everything possible just like you did, but nothing helped. Today I dont have any pain in my leg, only numb in my foot. But I take that any day. Mine was at the same level as yours. Good luck!!!

Im glad u had your procedure done finally and sincerely hoping that youre recovering well since it was such a big decision to make. Im going for it in 2 weeks. Whew. Nobody understands the true severity of this pain until we undergo thru it. I hope mine will be as successful as yours. By the way, wer u on general anaesthesia? Did u have any activities or minor movements after or
Just on ypur belly while healing? Any back brace? Take care! U did it. Legpain gone! Yay!

have you considered the ACCURASCOPE procedure see (northamericanspine. com)? I am thinking of undergoing this soon as they say I am a qualified candidate. CT showing multiple bulges and hypertrophy from T12 all the way to S1…no kidding…I have been in so much pain I haven’t worked in over 1 year even though I work in the medical field myself and I know just how much money I missed. Accurascope is less invasive as they don’t remove anything…going for info session next week @ col, oh.
